901 Cash Express has prepared tax returns in Memphis since 2012. Plenty of places will tell you how big your refund is. Rather fewer will sit down and show you what is deducted before it reaches you, and why it might arrive later than you expect.
Before it ever reaches your account
Who we are
901 Cash Express has prepared tax returns in Memphis since 2012, from Millbranch Road in Whitehaven. Individual returns, self-employment, and the credits that make up most of a working family's refund.
For a lot of households here, the refund is the single largest sum of money that arrives all year. It pays a deposit, clears a debt, replaces a car. That is precisely why it deserves to be handled carefully, and why the fee structure should be transparent rather than discovered at the end.
We would rather explain the whole picture — including the free options and the reasons your refund may be delayed. A customer who understood their return comes back next year. One who felt hurried does not, and should not.
The refund is not a windfall. It is your own money coming back, and you should know every dollar taken out of it.

Services
Straightforward tax work, done carefully, with the cost stated before we begin.
Federal returns for wage earners and families, prepared and reviewed with you rather than around you.
Earned income and child-related credits, with the documentation checked properly — because a credit claimed wrongly costs far more than it pays.
Rideshare, delivery, trades and side work — income and expenses organised, and an honest conversation about records.
Unfiled years brought up to date. Filing late is nearly always better than not filing, and it is rarely as bad as people fear.
Help understanding a notice that has arrived and working out what it actually requires — before a deadline on it passes.
Withholding and estimated payments, so next year's refund is not the only financial plan in the household.
Know your refund
None of this is secret and all of it is on the IRS website — but almost nobody reads it before tax season, and the gap between what people expect and what happens is where the trouble starts. You should hear this from your preparer, not learn it in February.
By law, the IRS cannot issue the refund on a return claiming the earned income credit or the additional child tax credit before mid-February — the whole refund, not just that portion. This is not your preparer being slow. Knowing it in advance is the difference between planning and panicking.
A refund advance is money paid to you now and taken back out of your refund when it arrives. Whatever it is called, it is borrowing against money you are already owed. Ask what it costs, what happens if your refund is smaller than expected, and whether you actually need it.
The IRS offers free filing options, and free volunteer tax assistance is available to people who qualify by income, age or disability. If your return is simple and money is tight, use them. We say this knowing it costs us business, because a family paying a fee they did not need to pay is not a customer we want.
Whatever a preparer puts on a return, it is filed under your name and you are responsible for it. Read it before signing. A preparer must sign it too and include their identification number — and one who declines to do either should not be preparing your taxes.

Client feedback
I was told my refund could not come before the middle of February because of the credits I claim, and why. Nobody had ever explained that to me. I had spent two Januarys assuming somebody was holding my money.
My return was simple enough that I was told I could file it for free myself and shown where. I came back the next year anyway when I started driving for a delivery app and it got complicated. That is why.
I had four years unfiled and had been avoiding it out of fear. It was handled year by year without any lecture. It was not nearly as bad as I had built it up to be in my head.
